Welcome to School Drama. I’m Amanda, I’m 26, I have 4 children, three girls and one boy. So far I’ve directed 5 plays. some where small others larger, but directing is my passion, or one of my passions (I’m quite a passionate person once you get to know me). I love seeing what plays do for people, building comradrie, teamwork, and most of all bringing people together. My mother once told me that in all her years she has never seen anything bring people together like a play. The joy of watching a parent see their child acting and doing things they never believed was possible is priceless and makes all the hard work worth it.
Drama, Drama, Drama
I guess, you could say I have drama and acting in my blood. I love to direct plays, my mom, is one of the best directors I know, and my grandma also directed plays. We may even be related to the great Bard himself, William Shakespeare! Almost all of what I know I’ve learned from my mom, she has loads of experience! When it gets down to the crunch time of a play and I don’t know what to do. I call mom, and ask her advice. I must say I’ve gotten better with each play, I even wrote one! My mom and I have this on going game, I do a play, she comes and watches it. I tell her “It’s your turn now!. Currently it’s her turn, and I’m helping her edit her script, as they are going from scratch on the script and music! Soon it will be my turn again. So I’m always on the look out for good scripts that could fit the cast I have at the time.
That perfect script
One problem I’ve had, and I know I’m not alone is finding the perfect play. My mom and I even call dibs on plays we think we’d like to do because they are so scarce! The internet makes it much easier to search plays but bottom line there just aren’t a ton of good plays out there that are accessible and affordable, and even if there are plays who can find them?
Also in the directing world at least the directors I know, we love sharing ideas. I want to make so directors and even actors can have a place to share tips, ideas, successes and woes. (Directors are loaded with all of them!)
A Chance to learn from each other
However, because I have 4 children, this website is a side hobby. I don’t know how far it will go or how much time I will be able to devote. As a director I would love to be able to rub shoulders, and exchange ideas with others who share my passion. It is my hope to make this a place drama teachers, teachers, and Directors can come to find plays and share ideas.
I may not have the most experience right now, but I learn more everyday. So if you ever have any questions or need help with anything I would love to help. (If can’t help you I’ll just ask mom! In my book she’s one of the best!)
Break a Leg (not really) anyways,
